  Excessive Sweating

Sweating is a natural phenomenon necessary for the regulation of an individual's body-temperature. Unfortunately, some people sweat far more than is necessary, this condition is called Hyperhidrosis. At our centre we have techniques to help reduce excessive sweating using BOTOX®

Primary Hyperhidrosis

This is far more common than secondary Hyperhidrosis and is often associated with a specific area such as armpits (axillary), hands (palmer), feet (planter). Primary Hyperhidrosis starts in childhood or adolescence and persists for life. Sweating can be triggered by stress or nervousness, and tends to be excessive. For example the worst cases of Axillary Hyperhidrosis can sweat a litre per day from the armpit.

Secondary Hyperhidrosis

Secondary Hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying condition, it is often generalised (i.e. all over the body) in these situations. The treatment is to find and treat the underlying condition.

Treatments that really work

Now regarded as the treatment of choice for Axillary Hyperhidrosis, Botulinum toxin is now licensed in the form of BOTOX® by the MHRA for excessive sweating of the armpits. Results are excellent. The studies show that results last 6-12 months, with some patients reporting success for up to 18 months. The treatment is very safe and side are minimal.
